Reproductive tract infection caused by <i>Kocuria kristinae</i> in an entire female sugar glider ( <i>Petaurus breviceps</i> )

The presence of a cloaca in the reproductive tract marsupials may predispose them to ascending infections. A 7-year-old, entire, female sugar glider presented with abdominal swelling. Whole-body radiographs and ultrasound revealed mass abdomen. Initial treatment included meloxicam, buprenorphine subcutaneous fluids. Abdominal exploratory surgery severe purulent distention multiple adhesions intestines, both ureters, urinary bladder spleen. Because tissue removal was not feasible, an incision performed, pus aspirated it flushed saline. biopsy affected indicative chronic suppurative endometritis. microbiological culture biochemical characterisation Kocuria kristinae. animal discharged azithromycin for 1 month there were no complications over ensuing 9-month period. This pathogen should be considered differential diagnosis infections gliders.
